Likes are incredibly important on Instagram.

The number of likes that a post receives can help that post to be more widely shared by the platform and can help the poster to be regarded by Instagram as a figure of authority in the industry.

In short, the more likes that a post gets, the wider its reach and the more people will see it as a result.

Liking a post is one of the easiest and quickest ways of showing that you agree with, and support, that piece of content or the account that posted it. And here’s how you can do it.

Option 1: The Heart Button

Underneath every post on Instagram, you’ll see a heart outline, a comment speech box, and a paper airplane share button.

Clicking on the heart outline will turn the heart red – showing that you have liked the post.

Option 2: The Double Tap

Option 1 may sound easy, but we think this one is even easier.

As soon as you come across a post that you like, double tap anywhere on the image or video.

Again, the heart outline will turn red to show that you have liked the post.

Option 3: Liking Stories

It’s not just grid posts that you can like as an Instagram user. You can also like story updates, by clicking on the heart shaped outline at the bottom of the story screen.

The user who posted the story will receive a notification that you have liked their story and will also see your name in their story statistics when they look to see how many views and interactions the story received.

Option 4: Liking Comments and Messages

You can also like comments and DMs.

When you view the comments underneath a post, whether it’s your post or someone else’s, you can easily like any comment by clicking on the heart next to the comment. The number of likes that a comment has received is indicated underneath it.

To like a DM or private message, simply double tap on the specific message. A red heart will appear on your screen, and the sender will be informed that you have interacted with their message.

As you have no doubt realised, any kind of ‘like’ action on Instagram is linked with the heart outlines. A red heart tells you that you’ve already liked the post or the comment!
