As an intrinsically image-based platform since day one, Instagram is all about the photos.

While it is possible for users to capture images and share them directly via the app’s own camera, there are plenty of reasons why it’s easier to share photos captured on your device.

For one thing, modern smartphones and devices are far more sophisticated in terms of their camera technology, capturing significantly better quality photos. For another, posting existing images from your device camera roll allows you to look back on and retrospectively share photos that you’ve captured at different times.

But in order to benefit from this, you need to give Instagram access to your device camera roll. Here’s how to do it.

5 Steps To Connect Your Device Camera Roll With Instagram

  1. Head to your device settings
  2. Click on the ‘Privacy and Security’ menu button
  3. Navigate to and click on ‘Photos’
  4. You will now see a list of all the apps that have requested permission to access photos in the past. Some apps will show a ‘Selected Photos’ option while others show an ‘All Photos’ option. For ease, we recommend giving Instagram access to ‘All Photos’.
  5. Once you’ve selected the right option for you, head back to Instagram and try creating a new post. You should automatically see all of your camera roll transported directly into Instagram.

Setting Up Instagram For The First Time?

If you are new to Instagram or are looking to set up an account and profile, there is a shortcut available.

All you need to do is click on the plus sign icon in the bottom centre of the Instagram app screen – indicating to the app that you want to add a new post.

Instagram will ask for direct permission to access your camera reel – unlocking all of your photos and videos to share across Instagram to your hearts content!

We hope this helps! Not only will enabling access make posting on Instagram quicker and easier, but it will help you to personalise your profile and create content that’s built on memories and past experiences as well as new ones.
