One of the innovative features that has arrived on TikTok is an ability to cast videos from your smartphone or portable device screen onto a TV.
This is a great way of sharing videos, learning dance routines, and making challenges more accessible and easier to watch. But how do you do it – and is there a limit on the types of device that allow you to cast your screen onto a TV?
What Does Casting to a Tv Mean?
When you cast your screen onto a TV, you essentially reflect what’s on your device screen, on a nearby television.
The main benefit of this is that it makes the screen bigger – though it is worth noting that most TikTok’s are filmed in portrait mode, meaning they do not translate quick so well on a horizontal television screen. Having said that, the larger screen does make the footage bigger to some extent.
What Device Do You Need to Cast to a TV?
You can cast your TikTok to a TV screen from an android or iPhone device, provided you have the right update.
On Android this is version 6.0, on iPhone this is version iOS 12.0.
You will also need both your TV and your device to be connected to the same network in order to match them up for casting. This also means that you need to be casting onto a smart TV which has a WiFi connection.
3 Steps to Cast From Your Smartphone to a Tv
- With your smart TV and smartphone connected to the same WiFi, open the video that you want to cast on your TikTok app
- Click on the share button at the bottom of the video, indicated by the sweeping arrow. Click ‘Cast to TV’ along the bottom, where you will see an option to connect to a nearby TV
- Select the TV that you want to cast onto, and watch as the TV screen takes on the visual look of your smartphone screen and TikTok app
You can now play the TikTok video as many times as you like on your TV and can stop casting at any time by clicking the banner at the bottom and ‘Tap to Disconnect’.
And there you have it! A quick and easy process which enables you to cast any TikTok video directly onto a nearby television with ease.
