On TikTok, your age is calculated by inputting your birthdate.

Unfortunately, there is no quick and easy way to access this and change it. Instead, you need to submit a customer support request to change your age manually.

The TikTok support team will likely come back to you as ask for a valid form of ID to verify your correct age – making it difficult for those trying to bypass the age restriction and fool the platform.

The process to submit this age change request is as follows:

1. Head to your TikTok profile
2. Click on the menu in the top right hand corner, indicated by the three horizontal lines
3. Select ‘Settings and Privacy’ then ‘Report a Problem’
4. When asked about the topic for your problem, choose ‘Account and Profile’ from the options listed
5. Select ‘Editing Profile’ on the next menu, then ‘Other’
6. Click on ‘Need More Help’ to open a text box which enables you to request a birthdate update for your profile

Typically the request will be processed within a few days, with TikTok then coming back to you for the valid ID before approving your request to change your birthdate.

If something goes wrong during this process, you may decide to delete your profile and start from scratch. This will not be a suitable option for established account holders and profiles, but it is a quick fix if your account is new, and you haven’t started building a community or presence yet.
