You may have noticed that, in many articles detailing what to do if your app stops working properly or if you are facing an issue with your TikTok, that we and other sites recommend clearing your TikTok cache as a course of action.

But how do you do that – and more importantly, what does it actually mean?

What is Your TikTok Cache?

Your TikTok cache is a form of temporary data store, in which the app stores information about your previous browsing experience. By accessing this data and your previous preferences from earlier experiences on the app, the cache enables the app to work more quickly the next time you use it.

What Happens When Your Clear Your Cache?

The reason why we recommend clearing your TikTok cache every so often is because this cache uses up a lot of data. Much of that data is, in our opinion, unnecessary.

To cut a long story short, you will not lose anything genuinely valuable or useful when you clear your cache – rather, your app will undergo a background reset which clears its temporary storage of previous browsing experiences, searches, and actions you performed. The chances are that you won’t miss this information at all.

3 Steps to Clear Your Cache

  1. Head to your profile page on TikTok and click on the three horizontal lines menu icon in the top right hand corner
  2. Select ‘Settings and Privacy’ then ‘Free Up Space’ under the Cache & Mobile section
  3. Here you will see how much data is being used by your TikTok cache, and can clear it with one swift click

NOTE: Underneath the option to clear your cache, TikTok reminds you that the action won’t affect your experience on the app. Making this a quick and easy thing to do whenever you’re experiencing some issues with your TikTok app or want to clear some space on your device!
