When it comes to editing a video, most users assume that the only way they can crop their video is by length / duration.

However, TikTok’s editing platform allows users to also crop their video with regards to its on-screen size – cutting away any distracting edges which steal focus from the content at the centre of their screen.

Here’s how to do it…

5 Steps to Crop a Video

  1. Open TikTok and click on the large plus sign at the bottom in the centre of the screen
  2. Select a duration for your video, or film ad hoc, to capture the footage you want to use for your video
  3. Select ‘Edit’ from the list of options down the right hand side of the screen. This will open your full video editing screen, which lets you add and layer sounds, filters, and other features
  4. Tap the ‘Edit’ icon, which is indicated by a pair of scissors, along the bottom of the screen
  5. Select ‘Crop’ from the options which appear. You can now crop the video on your screen, to remove unwanted edges and ensure that the main figure or feature of your video is centred

You can also select a crop size from a series of pre-determined ratios and sizing aspects, if you are using TikTok for editing a video to share on another platform. ‘Freeform’ invites you to pinch and drag the crop box where you want or use one of the pre-selected sizes to quickly and easily adjust your video to fit a certain specification.

We hope this helps! TikTok is designed to make not just sharing and watching videos, but creating and editing them, as fun as possible!
