How to Delete a Picture From Instagram

Have you ever posted something on Instagram, only to realise later that you forgot to add a filter, or that you regret posting the image altogether?

Luckily, Instagram makes it really easy for users to delete posts and pictures that they no longer want to share – regardless of whether it’s a grid post or a story.

How to Delete a Grid Post Picture

There’s nothing worse than a picture on your grid which doesn’t match the surrounding images, or which damages the overall aesthetic of your page.

Deleting a picture is really easy – simply open the image that you want to delete and click on the three horizontal dots in the top right hand corner of the post.

Select ‘Delete’ at the bottom of the list of options – and you’re done!

Alternatively, you can always ‘Archive’ the image if you want to remove it from view but still keep it active for future sharing. This is a quick and easy way to essentially hide a post without losing its caption, editing, and engagement stats.

Can You Delete One Picture From a Carousel?

Once a carousel post has gone live, you might be wondering if it’s possible to delete just one picture from within a post.

Well, up until recently the answer would have been no – but Instagram has now made it possible to delete single pictures while retaining the engagement and caption of the original carousel post.

Here’s how to do it.

1. Navigate to the carousel post that you want to edit
2. Click on the three horizontal dots in the top right hand corner of the post, and select ‘Edit’
   
3. Scroll through your carousel until you find the picture that you want to delete, and press the bin icon in the top left hand corner
4. Confirm your ‘Delete’ action
   

You can check the picture has been deleted by scrolling through the carousel again.

How to Delete a Picture On Your Story

If you’ve posted a picture to your Instagram story but want to delete it, here’s how.

1. Find the story picture that you want to delete, on full viewing screen mode (you can do this by clicking on your own profile picture and clicking through until you find the right image)
2. Select ‘More’ in the bottom left hand corner of the screen
3. Click on ‘Delete’ and wait for the picture to be removed from your story

And voila! Three different ways to delete a picture on Instagram, all easily accessible within your Instagram app!

Do note that even if a picture is deleted, some users who notice the update instantly may still see it – however, once you have deleted it they will not be able to find it or view it again.
