If you want to support a creator, following them will help to boost their follower count and unlock new features. Following users will also help to inform your position in the TikTok algorithm, letting the app know what you like and the kind of accounts you want to engage with.
Best of all, following another user is incredibly simple. Here’s how to do it…
Option 1: From Their Profile Page
If you know of a user who you want to follow, you can search for them in the discovery search page, hidden behind the magnifying glass icon.
From there, you can click through to their profile and tap the ‘Follow’ button.
Option 2: From Their Video
If you come across a video on your ‘For You’ page and want to follow the creator quickly and easily, you can do so by tapping the pink plus sign under their profile picture. This is located to the right hand side of the video, just above the like the comment icons.
Tapping this plus sign will automatically add the creator to your ‘Following’ list, so you will see all of their new updates and posts in their feed. You can also engage with and follow their live streams, and more.
Option 3: Following Suggested Friends and Contacts
If you’re not sure who to follow, or are new to TikTok and want to build your community, then one of the best things to do is browse the list of suggested friends and followers on the app.
To find this list, head to your own profile page and click on the outline of the person with a plus sign (under your profile picture).
Click on this will take you to a page of suggested friends, which can be filtered according to your Contacts, Facebook Friends, and other users you may know.
