TikTok is a super sociable platform, and as such is a great place to communicate with individual connections and with groups of friends or family members.
While the app primarily focuses on the creation and sharing of videos, demand from users for more private features and enhanced messaging has led to the rollout of an inbox, group chat function, and more.
The group chat feature is a particularly popular one, allowing users to create groups of up to 15 users who can then exchange messages and videos – creating their own private community within the wider app.
There are two ways of creating a group chat – both of which we will outline to help you determine the best next steps for you.
Make a Group Chat via Your Inbox
Head into your inbox on TikTok and open a chat with someone who you want to be a part of your group chat.
Click on the three dots in the top right hand corner of the chat page and select ‘Create Group Chat’.
Select the other people who you want to add to your chat – and voila! Your group chat is ready to go.
Make a Group Chat via Video Share
If you find a video that you want to share with a specific group of people and decide at that moment to start a group chat, you can do so via the share button.
Once you’ve found a video you want to share, click on the sweeping arrow share button, and select all of the TikTok users who you want to send it to.
Press the ‘Create Group Chat’ button and send the video.
This will become available to you and to your friends as a new group message in their inbox, making your shared video the first message in what will hopefully become a vibrant and engaging group chat!
