Reposting a video on TikTok is a great way of showing support for a creator’s video, while widening the reach of a video that you find particularly compelling, informative, or entertaining.
However, this is the only the case when you publicly repost a video.
Why? Because a private repost means that the video is reserved for you only, making the video quick and easy for you to find again – but without showing it to anyone else.
So, if you find a video that you want your friends and followers to enjoy, you need to make sure that your repost setting is fixed on ‘Public’.
With that said, how do you share a video and make sure that your repost is public?
How to Repost a Video
When you find a video that you want to repost, click on the sweeping arrow icon which indicates the ‘Share’ button.
Tap the ‘Repost’ button – a yellow circle with rolling arrows inside it.
You can add a caption to the video that you are reposting to let others know why you are reposting it and what your thoughts are. Not only does this add some context to your repost, but it allows you to credit the original creator.
The reposted video will now appear in the feed of your friends. You can find all of the videos and TikTok’s that you have reposted by navigating to your profile on TikTok and then selecting the reposts grid under your profile picture and personal information.
How to Ensure a Repost Is Public
In order to grant your friends and followers access to and visibility of a reposted video, you need to set your repost tool to public.
To do this, follow these steps…
- Navigate to your profile on TikTok and select the menu button in the top right hand corner
- Select ‘Settings and Privacy’
- Find the ‘Repost’ menu option and select it
- Switch on the toggle to make your reposts ‘Public’
And voila! Every video that you repost on TikTok will now be public meaning that your friends and followers can see and respond to the video. Youn can reverse this process at any time to make your reposted videos private again.
