Have you ever captured some footage for your Instagram story directly in the app, and then found yourself wanting to keep it to share outside the app as well?

The Instagram camera is a great tool for those times when you want to capture a photo or short snippet of video and share it to the platform quickly – without worrying about saving and then uploading it from your camera reel to the app.

And best of all, it couldn’t be easier to save that story content direct to your device for off-app sharing – both before and after you’ve posted the story to your followers!

Here’s how to do it.

3 Steps To Save a Story Before You Post It

  1. On your Instagram profile page, click on the icon which depicts a plus sign in a square box. Select ‘Story’ to make a new story.

  2. Click on the black square with the camera in the middle, to create some fresh content for your story. Snap a photo or capture a few seconds of video footage for your Instagram story and edit it until you are ready to post.
  3. This is the important bit. Before you share your post to your Instagram story, click on the three horizontal lines in the top right hand corner of the screen, and select ‘Save’.

Your story is now saved to your device as a photo or video – easy to access and share via other apps and platforms as you wish.

3 Steps To Save a Story After You’ve Posted It

  1. Find the story that you want to save. NOTE: You need to do this while the story is still available, which means within the first 24 hours after posting it.
  2. With the story open, select ‘More’ in the bottom right hand corner of the screen.
  3. Select ‘Save’. This will invite you to save that specific photo or save your entire story.

If you have multiple posts that fall under a single story, then selecting ‘Save Story’ is a quick and easy way to download all of that content onto your device. If there is just a single photo or clip that you want to save and access outside of Instagram, then select ‘Save Photo’.

We hope this helps and allows you to access all of your photos and content updates outside of the Instagram app!
