When you delete a story because of a typo, or because you shared it too soon or at the wrong time for your audience, you might be wondering what happens to it.
Can deleted stories be recovered or at least revisited? Or does deleting a story mean it’s gone forever?
Yes – but only for a period of 30 days! After this 30 day period is up, the story will be deleted from your account forever.
Here’s how to find a story that you deleted…
3 Steps To Find Deleted Stories
- Head to your profile page and click on the menu button in the top right hand corner of the screen
- Click on ‘Your Activity’ then ‘Recently Deleted’
- Icons along the top of the screen will help you to filter your view of Reels or Stories. Click on the Stories icon to view deleted stories – and voila!
You will notice that each one has a label with a number of days attached. This tells you how many days are left before the story is removed forever. Once it’s down to the last few days, the text will show as red to highlight the sense of urgency!
You can click on these deleted stories and ‘Restore’ them or add them to reels with incredible eas!
Finding Old Stories On Instagram
If your story has finished its 24-hour run and disappeared from your profile, there is still a way of finding it. You can even add it to a highlight so that it remains on your profile indefinitely if you want to, as part of Instagram’s enhanced user features.
To do this, simply click on the menu button in the top right hand corner of your profile page and click on ‘Archive’.
A grid of stories will appear, including every single story that you have posted on your profile – alongside the date it was posted. You can open these and view the activity that was linked to them, add them to a highlight, add them to a reel, or even share them elsewhere outside of Instagram.
