With Instagram limiting the amount of time that a single video can play for on the app, it’s no surprise that many users are looking for ways to speed up their videos to fit into a short snippet or reel.
But how do you do it?
Well, with the reels editing tool, it’s easier than you might think!
When you create a new reel on Instagram, you are first asked to compile all of the footage and imagery that you want to include as part of your final piece. The editing screen then allows you to mix and match how long each visual is on the screen for.
What’s more, any video clips that you have can be sped up or slowed down using the following steps…
3 Steps to Speed Up a Clip in a Reel
- Click on ‘Edit’ to edit a reel that you’re creating. This will take you to a screen where the clip is played at the top and you have a series of editing functions, underneath a visual depiction of the footage and how it relates to the audio you’ve chosen
- Select the clip that you want to speed up – it will now appear inside a yellow bordered box
- Click on ‘Speed’ along the bottom and use the sliding tool to speed the clip up
This will adjust the amount of time that your clip takes in the overall layout of the video and will need to be matched to the audio in a different way (as the audio speed stays the same).
Finally, if you want to speed up a video that you’re posting in your Instagram story or elsewhere on the app, then you will need to use a third party tool or your device’s own editing function to adjust the video until it runs at your ideal speed!
