There is nothing more annoying than seeing a flood of new followers hit your Instagram profile, only to find that most of them are bots and spam accounts.

Unfortunately, there is nothing you can do to prevent bots from finding you and trying to connect with your account. But you can put a wall up to stop them!

Enter the Private Account feature of Instagram.

What is a Private Account and How Does it Stop Bots?

A private account essentially means that users have to request to follow you – and that you have to accept their request before they are granted access to your profile and to your content.

What this means for users is that bot accounts can be quickly ignored and denied access, only allowing your friends and those who you trust or recognise to follow you.

How to Make Your Profile Private

In order to make sure that this wall is up and that your profile is set to private, you need to head to your profile page and click on the menu button in the top right hand corner.

Select ‘Settings and Privacy’ from this menu, and then scroll down to the section titled ‘Who Can See Your Content’.

Click on ‘Account Privacy’ and set the private account toggle on.

This instantly makes your profile private, meaning that anyone who isn’t already a follower will not be able to see anything more than your profile picture and username.

We hope this helps you to minimise the number of bots on your profile, and keep Instagram a safe and enjoyable place to engage and browse.
