TikTok is geared towards the sharing of videos – from those filmed in the app to those uploaded from a device and edited using TikTok’s features.

While some of these videos are compiled of direct footage, other videos are made up of collections of photos – which leaves many users with one burning question. How exactly do you take a photo on TikTok that can then be enhanced and edited using the platforms various filters?

3 Steps to Capture a Photo on TikTok

  1. In the TikTok app, click on the large white button in the bottom centre of the screen with the plus sign in the middle of it
  2. Just above the circular white button, you will see a carousel of options. Select ‘Photo’
  3. Click on the white circle to capture a photo

As soon as your photo has been taken, you will find that TikTok automatically adds a sound or music clip that it thinks will compliment the photo. You can progress into the editing stage of your post with this music or remove it and choose something different.

Adding an Existing Photo to Your TikTok Post

If you want to add existing photos from your device to your TikTok post, you can do so by following step one from the above process – but rather than selecting the large white circular button, tap ‘Upload’ next to it.

This will open a grid of images and videos from your device, that you can upload into the app and use to create a new TikTok post.

We hope this helps! Taking a photo on TikTok – or uploading one to edit on the platform – grants you access to a plethora of different filters and effects that can elevate your content for your TikTok audience. Happy photographing!
