Restricted mode is a protective feature that’s built into TikTok, that ensures users are not able to see content which might not be suitable for them.
Often, restricted mode is reserved for younger users to prevent them from being exposed to content which deals with more mature themes. It also stops younger users from being able to host Live streams or buy gifts for creators via the TikTok wallet.
In short, it’s a way of keeping users safe.
But how do you turn it off if you feel that the features are too invasive on your overall TikTok experience?
Access the Restricted Mode Tool
To access the restricted mode tool and turn it on for the first time, you will need to choose a passcode. This tends to be set by an adult, parent, or guardian before handing over the TikTok app to a younger user, because it enables them to add a passcode to prevent underage users from unlocking their own profile.
- Head to your profile page and click on the menu in the top right hand corner indicated by the three horizontal lines
- Select ‘Settings and Privacy’ then find the button for ‘Content Preferences’
- Select ‘Restricted Mode’
- The first time you turn this mode on, you will be asked to set a passcode. This means that when you go back into the settings to turn restricted mode off, you must first enter the passcode to gain full editing access
If you know the passcode, then you will be able to turn off restricted mode quickly and easily. If not, you will need to ask for permission from the passcode holder or wait until you can access the content for yourself as an over 18 adult user.
We hope this helps. Remember, features like restricted mode are there for your safety and for the safety of other users.
