While seeing the number of likes and comments is great for monitoring your success and engagement on the app, let’s be honest… notifications can be a bit of a pain. Which is why being able to switch them off is so important when you’ve got better things to do (sorry Instagram!)
In this article, we’re looking exclusively at story notifications (you know, the notifications that arrive on your phone every time someone sends a heart, a message, or a laugh face in response to your story).
3 Steps to Switch Off Story Notifications
- Head to your profile page on Instagram and click on the menu button in the top right hand corner of the screen (indicated by the three horizontal lines)
- Select ‘Settings and Privacy’ then ‘Notifications’
- Select ‘Posts, Stories, and Comments’
This will open up a menu of different types of notification that you may receive relating to your Instagram posts and stories. You can approach this list with your own preferences in mind, switching on or off the notifications relating to likes, comments, and more.
How Do Your Stop Push Notifications on Your Device?
If you find that your Instagram notifications go one step further, popping up on your device home screen even when you’re not using the app, then you need to switch off your push notifications.
This is typically done via your device settings rather than in Instagram directly – though you can pause all Instagram notifications for a period of time using the settings as described above.
NOTE: Preventing push notifications will not stop them from appearing in your app but will simply prevent them from being sent through to your device home screen whenever you’re not on Instagram.
Suffice to say, while it’s always good to know who likes your posts and who has commented on or engaged with your story, sometimes you want to be able to turn off Instagram and take a break from the comments and likes. We hope that the information shared in this article enables you to do so!
