Did you know that you can access a setting on TikTok which opens the app on mute?
This is an increasingly popular feature which was added by the platform in response to the number of users who complained about being accosted by sound as soon as they open the app.
Via this function, when you click on the TikTok app icon and open the app on your device, the very first video will play as normal, but the sound will be muted.
Which raises a question… how do you turn the sound on again?
Turning the Sound on When TikTok Is Muted
Perhaps the easiest way to turn the sound on when you open TikTok and it has been muted, is by clicking one of the volume buttons on your device.
This will automatically turn the sound on at the pre-determined volume of your device.
Alternatively, you can click on an icon in the bottom right hand corner which depicts a megaphone with a ‘X’ next to it. This is an unmute button which not only lets you turn the sound on in one move, but actually tells you that the sound has been muted.
Again, tapping this button will restore the sound to your TikTok, at a pre-determined volume from the last time you were using your device.
Turning off the Mute Function
If you want to restore sound to TikTok as soon as you open the app, you need to turn off the mute function.
You can do this by following these 3 steps…
- Head to your profile page on TikTok and click on the menu button in the top right hand corner
- Select ‘Settings and Privacy’ then scroll down to ‘Playback’
- Turn the toggle off which says ‘Open TikTok on Mute’
This will restore volume to your TikTok as soon as you first open the app.
