There are pros and cons when it comes to syncing your contacts onto social media.
On one hand, it’s an easy and virtually effortless way of finding your friends’ social media profiles and following them. On the other hand, syncing your entire contact list will also potentially connect your social media to the profile of your boss, random people in your phone, and friends or colleagues who you have long fallen out of contact with.
If you’re browsing TikTok and keep finding your profile or feed filled with the names of contacts that you don’t want to follow or connect with on social media, then this article is for you…
Why Un-Sync Contacts From TikTok
The main reason why users choose to un-sync their contacts from TikTok is not because of annoying colleagues and coworkers popping up on their feed (though this is one reason!)
In fact, the main reason is geared towards privacy and security, with syncing immediately granting TikTok access to the personal information of you and your contacts.
As the way that TikTok uses and shares data never 100% guaranteed, being cautious of this is key – and there is no better or more effective way to exercise caution than to simply remove the access completely.
5 Steps to Un-Sync Contacts
- Launch the TikTok app and head to your profile page
- Tap on the menu button in the top right hand corner, indicated by the three horizontal lines
- Head into your ‘Settings and Privacy’ menu and then ‘Privacy’ from the top block of options
- Select ‘Sync Contacts and Facebook Friends’
- If you want to un-sync your contacts, you need to make sure that the toggle is switched off. You will also be given an option to ‘Remove Previously Synced Contacts’ via a red button. Following all of these steps, and the same steps connected to your Facebook account, will remove any automatic permissions and account sharing that TikTok has put in place
We hope this helps you to retain control over who you follow and who can see your content on TikTok.
