The social media world is ride with challenges and exciting opportunities to engage.

However, with the good comes the potential for bad – with social platforms like TikTok and Facebook both falling foul of a recent ‘Look who died in an accident’ scam.

This scam is sent as a message from friends and unknown senders, the former of which may have been hacked to access their account. The message includes this line of text and a message of condolence, as well as a link.

When users click on the link, they are asked to enter their password to “find out who died” – thereby unlocking access to their personal data and allowing their account to be used for potential harmful and damaging activity.

Why Do Scams Go Viral?

This scam has been making the rounds on TikTok and Facebook, and while the rise in recipient should help to draw attention to it and protect other users, the reality is that words like these often result in users clicking without really thinking.

What would you do if you received a message saying that someone you know had died? Consider this a warning that messages like these may well conceal a scam!
