A suggested account on TikTok is one which the platform thinks you may be interested in or want to follow.
The reason for an account appearing in your ‘Suggested’ list could be one of the following:
- Someone whose contact details are saved in your device, made available to TikTok when you chosen to sync your contacts to the app
- Someone who has mutual friends or followers with you on the app
- Someone who you already follow or are friends with on Facebook
- Someone who has you listed in their contacts
- Someone who follows you, with TikTok suggesting that you follow them back
Where to Find Suggested Accounts
Suggested accounts that TikTok thinks you may be interested in can be found by following these steps…
- Head to your profile page on TikTok
- Click on the icon of a person with a plus sign, located to the right of your ‘Followers’ and ‘Following’ headings. This is the ‘Add Friends’ button
- There are two headings under ‘Add Friends’. One is for existing friends, and the other is ‘Suggested’
In the ‘Suggested’ page, you will find a collection of recommended and suggested accounts, all with a filter as to why they appear there.
Some will be listed as ‘You May Know…’ while others will appear because they are followed by your existing friends on TikTok.
In the ‘Suggested’ section, you will also find options to browse TikTok users via your Contacts (in your device) and your Facebook friends (if your Facebook account is linked).
Other Suggested Content on TikTok
Of course, we could argue that all content on your ‘For You’ page is an example of TikTok suggesting content and accounts to you as a user.
The main aim of the ‘For You’ page is to show content and spotlight videos that the platforms thinks you will enjoy, based on your previous activity and interests. So, when it comes to finding new accounts, the ‘For You’ page can be similarly enlightening.
