You’d be forgiven for clicking on this article, assuming that YT is an acronym and shorthand abbreviation of the platform ‘YouTube’. That’s certainly what we thought YT stood for when we first looked into the acronym.
However, we could argue that the meaning of YT as it is currently being used on TikTok is even simpler than that.
On TikTok, YT is being used as a shorthand way of saying ‘white’.
Sometimes it’s used to refer to someone with white skin, and sometimes it’s used to simply reference the colour white. Either way, this shorthand reference relates directly to the sound that the two letters make when said in tandem.
