TikTok can be a minefield of abbreviations, shorthand terms, and phrases which often sound (let’s be honest here) made up.

But whether you recognise them or not, having some idea as to what the most common abbreviations mean will help you to navigate the app and understand user guides. Which is where our articles come in – defining and dissecting some of the most common phrases, so that you don’t have to!

In this article, we’re looking at FYP – which is shorthand for ‘For You Page’.

What is The For You Page on TikTok?

TikTok’s For You Page is a content feed which is influenced by the individual user and their interests.

Via the algorithm, which tracks and monitors interests, likes, engagement, and TikTok activity, the platform creates a For You page for every user – presenting them with content that the app thinks they will like and want to see.

This recommended content based on activity and interests is tied in with content as posted by your friends and family and those who you already follow – creating a blend of content that TikTok recognises as linked to your experience.

How to Find the For You Page on TikTok

The For You page and its balance of content is so important to the TikTok user experience, that it is the first page that appears as soon as you open the app.

When you open TikTok and a video starts playing automatically, this is a video that has been chosen specifically for you – and presented on the For You page. You can confirm this by looking at the top of the screen, where you will see a line under the heading ‘For You’.

So, whether you already knew what FYP meant or not, if you use TikTok then you will 100% have interacted with this page and its tailored content at some point during your browsing experience.

We hope this helps!
