Instagram Notes is a feature which allows users to post a short update for followers to see. With a length limit of 60 characters, and the fact that they are only available for 24 hours before disappearing, Instagram Notes are like a combination of Twitter updates and Instagram Stories.

These Notes appear in your inbox, sitting just above your Direct Message (DM) list. They can be linked with a song that you like or resonate with, and can be shared with one of two groups:

  1. Followers who you follow back
  2. Close Friends (using your Close Friends List, if you have created one)

But not everybody can view this feature and see the updates posted by their friends and contacts.

Here’s why…

3 Reasons Why Instagram Notes Aren’t Showing

1. Your App is Outdated

If your app is not running the latest version, then this may be impacting both your user experience and the way that you access the app’s latest features and tools.

In order to update your app, you can either download the latest version via your device App Store or uninstall and reinstall the app (which automatically updates to the latest version).

2. Your Connections Aren’t Using the Feature

This is not uncommon; after all, with so many different ways of using Instagram, and so many alternative platforms for updates from private and business users, it’s not beyond the realm of possibility that your friends simply aren’t using the feature.

If you can’t see any Notes at all, then it may simply be that nobody has shared any. If there is a specific user whose Notes you can’t see, it may be that they have deleted an update, or shared it with a Close Friends list that you aren’t part of.

3. Your Account Status is Limited

If your account has been limited by Instagram for any reason, for example if you have broken any of the app’s guidelines or user regulations, then you may find that specific features are blocked.

You can check this by following these steps…

  1. On your profile page, click the menu button in the top right hand corner
  2. Click on ‘Settings and Privacy’ then scroll right down to ‘Account Status’
  3. Here you can see which content has been blocked, and whether you have had any features or tools blocked by the app

If none of these options work and you are still unable to access or see Instagram Notes, then reach out to the app directly via the Help and Support platform.
