If you try to access Instagram and find yourself faced with the ‘We suspended your account’ notice, then you might be wondering:
- What caused the suspension
- How to reverse it
If your account is suspended by Instagram, the chances are that you have violated one or more of its terms of use / community guidelines.
However, that’s not the only reason. Sometimes, errors can occur within the app itself, affecting the user experience for countless Instagram users across the world.
Here’s what to do if you notice that your account has been suspended.
What Kind of Activity Will Result in Account Suspension?
If you try to access Instagram once your account has been suspended, you will see a screen which tells you when your account was first suspended, and how many days you have left to appeal the suspension (more on this later in the article!)
Instagram clearly states that any activity which goes against its community guidelines will result in suspension. This includes but is not limited to:
- Engaging in activity that is considered fraudulent
- Running multiple accounts, making Instagram think that you are a spam user
- Insulting or using abusive language against other users
- Sharing inappropriate content
What if the Suspension Isn’t Your Fault?
If you find that your account suspension has been caused by an error, or by Instagram being down, then the best advice is to wait for 24-48 hours to see if the issue has been resolved by itself.
If not, you will need to submit a form to challenge the suspension.
How to Fix a Suspended Instagram Account
The most effective way to fix a suspended account, especially if you believe your account has been locked in error, is to submit an appeal.
- On the pop up which outlines the date of suspension and your time remaining to appeal or disagree with the decision, click on ‘Disagree with Decision’.
- Complete the ‘I’m not a robot’ CAPTCHA task, and enter the information required.
- You will be sent a code by text or email, which you must enter into the app.
- Your account should now be unsuspended and available to use again!
If you find that the time to disagree with the suspension has passed and your account has been deactivated, you can submit a “My Instagram Account was Deactivated” form via the helpdesk and wait for Instagram’s response.
If your appeal is successful, your account will be unlocked.
Tips to Avoid Instagram Suspension
If you use multiple accounts for different businesses or believe that the regularity of your posting across different accounts is playing a role in suspensions, then tip number one is to log in to your accounts via a different IP address for each.
By accessing accounts via different IP addresses, Instagram will not be able to link your various logins as part of a sole user experience.
Other steps you can take include:
- Making sure to change the content across different profiles, so that Instagram doesn’t link them as coming from one user
- Do not always log in using the same method, i.e., fingerprint or face ID
- Review your content and make sure it doesn’t violate any guidelines
We hope this helps! Finding out that your Instagram account has been suspended can be annoying and even a little upsetting, but with this advice we hope that you can understand, and reverse, the suspension in record time!
