A new update from TikTok enables users to feed text prompts into its advertising platform and turn them into AI-generated visual content.Â
Accessible via the TikTok Symphony ad creation tool, this latest development means that advertisers and businesses don’t need to capture their own content. Instead, they can dream up a sequence of clips and video snippets, feeding those text prompts into the ad platform which then turns out realistic visuals.Â
Is This a Good Thing for TikTok?
There are pros and cons to this AI-enhanced development on TikTok.
Spearheaded by platform owner ByteDance, there is some distrust around the safety of the latest integration. It’s also important to recognise that AI-generated content is increasingly putting users off certain businesses and channels, by creating content which isn’t quite human but is trying very hard to be.Â
On the plus side though, this latest innovation will give marketers and advertisers a lot more licence for creativity, while reducing the workload involved in generating fresh ads. Provided all content doesn’t start to appear the same, the impact of AI on TikTok video creation could be extremely positive – continuing to engage new followers and generate content that draws new audiences both organically and through paid packages.
The question users will start to ask themselves is this: how well can I really identify AI-generated content, and is it really that different to human-generated footage?
