A new update from Instagram gives creators, who often use AI to generate and support the creation of their content, a chance to switch on a toggle that lets users know the content has been made with the help of AI.
The purpose of this new update is to improve overall transparency around AI-generated content, specifically in light of ongoing confusion regarding whether content is authentic or artificially created.
What Does the Update Involve?
In short, the update involves a label or toggle, which creators can switch on to show when something they are posting has been created with the help and support of AI.
It’s worth noting that if a creator doesn’t choose to use this tool, but Instagram detects the intervention and presence of AI, the toggle will automatically be applied anyway – preventing creators from being able to hide being misinformation.
What this means is that users across the platform will have more visibility on whether content is real or not, hopefully countering the issue of misleading content and misinformation.Â
And it doesn’t have to be a bad thing!Â
We need only look at Meta’s own expansion into AI and its investment into AI tools to see that, despite its push to prioritise original poster content, it is likely to still support AI-generated content from creators who want to increase their following and engagement across the platform. This change simply makes the sharing of such videos more transparent.
