Reports from social media experts claim that Android users may be sharing more than they think, whenever they log into and use Meta platforms.Â
The research, which has reportedly been carried out by a University in the Netherlands, states that Meta and a specific search engine company called Yandex have both been tracking Android users’ behaviour across their device web browser.Â
Crucially, the reports claim that this tracking has been happening without users consent – meaning that users are unknowingly using a social media app and then browsing the web, without realising the two are linked.
Who is Affected by Instagram’s Off-App Tracking?
Android users are said to be the ones most at risk of this covert data and user behaviour tracking, with both Instagram and Facebook guilty of facilitating background tracking on users’ web browsers.Â
The extent of this issue is not yet clear, with Meta promising to look into the claims and reports.
