How to See Facebook History

Or perhaps you remember seeing a great video or commenting on a comic post a few weeks back but can’t remember who posted it or where you saw it.

Whatever it is that you want to look back on, one of the great things about Facebook’s design is the way it stores past activity and interaction history. Through a combination of Facebook’s Memories feature and the Activity Log, users are able to look back at what they have done and how they have interacted on the platform, bringing old posts back into the spotlight and tracking full friendship histories with different users.

In this article, we’re sharing just a few of the different ways in which users can retrace their history on the platform…

Facebook Memories

The first feature we want to draw your attention to is Facebook Memories.

A content block that can be found in the main menu of your Facebook account, this feature shows you all the posts you shared on a specific day in history – compiling all activity from that day across previous years, in one feed.

To access your Facebook Memories, and either browse them for your own enjoyment or reshare them on your page for the entertainment of others, click on the menu button in the bottom right hand corner of the screen and select ‘Memories’ from the menu blocks.

The Facebook Activity Log

Your Facebook Activity Log is where you will find the most comprehensive history of all previous interactions, comments, likes, and shares on the platform.

Once you’ve landed in your Activity Log, a variety of different options exist to help you filter and refine your view – even allowing you to access deleted posts via the Recycle Bin and the searches that you have made on the platform.

To access your Activity Log, click on the menu button in the bottom right hand corner of your screen and select ‘Settings and Privacy’ – then ‘Settings’.

Once in your Settings, scroll down until you see ‘Activity Log’. Opening this will allow you to view and manage all previous Facebook activity – looking back on your recent and long gone social history.

Tracing Your Friendship History

If you’re interested in looking specifically at your Facebook history with another user, then the best place to focus your attention is your Friendship History.

This is where you can find out everything from the date you became friends, to the photos you’ve been tagged in, posts you have shared on each other’s feeds, and memories you have been a part of together.

To access your Friendship history with another user, the first step is to visit their profile. Click on the button with the three dots just underneath their cover photo and select ‘See Friendship’.

A new feed will open, providing you with detailed insight into your mutual friends, photos together, and more. You can share these memories with your friend or browse them for your own interest.

All of these methods of tracing your Facebook history provide insight into how you use the platform and how you engage with others. We hope this article doesn’t just help you to see your Facebook history but also inspires you to look deeper than the first few posts on your home screen feed.
