Does Facebook Notify When You Screenshot a Story?

Have you ever screenshotted someone else’s story, in order to save it for inspiration or share a snapshot with someone else?

If so, you might have wondered at the time whether the poster would know that you screenshotted their content.

And it’s a short no. Facebook does not notify creators or users when someone screenshots their Facebook story. While users can see who has viewed their story and can respond to comments linked with their story, there is no definitive way of seeing if someone has screenshotted the content that you share.

How to Tell if Someone Has Taken a Screenshot of Your Story

While Facebook may not let you know if someone has screenshotted your story, there are things that you can look out for…

• Look out for posts that may contain images directly from your story
• Ask friends if they have received any screenshots sent by other users
• Explore third party apps, though it is important to note that even third party apps are not able to access accurate information and so may mis-sell and make false promises

Finally, take note of the users who regularly watch your stories and who are the most likely to be screenshotting your content – and ask them directly!

Your content is yours. While you cannot easily track who screenshots your content, what you can do is take steps to make your stories private and viewable only to friends, to limit the spread of your content beyond your account.
