If you are an active Facebook user then you will know that, like other social media platforms and apps, Facebook is constantly evolving to release new features and tools.
One of the most popular features, certainly among single users, is Facebook Dating – which enables individuals to build a dating profile and meet others looking for love, without having to create a whole new online account. Available only through the app and not through Facebook’s browser, this feature is designed to marry romantic opportunity with convenience and on-the-go connectivity.
Let’s take a closer look at how it works…
How to Get Started With Facebook Dating
Building a profile on Facebook Dating couldn’t be easier.
Simply click on the menu button in the bottom right hand corner of your app screen and click on the ‘Dating’ block in the menu.
This will open an introduction page – select ‘Get Started’ to begin building a profile, with the feature pulling personal information through from your Facebook profile to save time and energy.
Once you’re full set up on the Dating app, you will find that Facebook recommends friends of friends and other users who you might be interested in based on your location, age, and interests – however, it will never suggest or try to match you up with existing friends.
Understanding the Facebook Dating Tool
Whenever you open your Facebook app once you’ve set up your dating profile, you will find notifications for your profile in the same place as other platform notifications.
Despite this, your friends on Facebook will never know that you have created a dating profile for yourself (unless you choose to tell them of course!)
When it comes to creating and finding your perfect match, the more information you provide the better your matches will be. Facebook Dating has been designed with various questions and prompts to help personalise your profile – including who you want to date, whether you have kids, and other personal details. You can also connect your Instagram account, build an ‘Ideal Match’ algorithm that contains all your priority must-haves from a partner, and answer additional questions to give potential suitors a better understanding of your personality.
Up to nine profile pictures can be added to your Facebook Dating profile, before you enter the dating pool.
How to Swipe on Facebook Dating
Once your profile is fully built and you’re happy with how it portrays and introduces you to potential matches, it’s time to start swiping.
When you are presented with a profile, you will see their photo, first name, age, location, and an X or a Heart icon. Scrolling down will uncover more information about them, or you can respond immediately using the X to say no or the Heart to say yes.
If you both say yes to each other using the Heart icon, it’s a match and you can start to chat.
NOTE: The Secret Crush feature lets you know if a user who you come across has already registered a secret crush on you.
Is Facebook Dating a Good Option for Singles?
With so many dating apps out there, is Facebook Dating a good option?
Alongside the classic swiping action and matching data, Facebook offers a few extra features that enhance the user experience. As well as the secret crush tool listed above, users can add secondary locations to their profile (if, for example, they regularly travel between different locations) and can also access ‘Lucky Pick’ matches which fall outside their ideal match filters, but which Facebook believes may be a good match.
What’s more, Facebook is built for modern dating which means that virtual dates are not just supported but encouraged. More intimate than messaging, these are audio calls that are conducted in the app, helping to protect users who aren’t yet ready to share their number.
So, if you are single and happen to be looking for a good platform on which to meet people, consider this a sign to give Facebook Dating a try. Not only is it convenient, using the data and personal information you’ve already used to build your Facebook profile, but it’s also easy to use with tons of extra features to maximise your chance of meeting the perfect person.
