How Does Shipping Work on Facebook Marketplace?

Facebook Marketplace operates on a localised basis – that is, sellers can list their goods by location, with buyers able to look for specific items in their local area.

What this means is that the emphasis for both parties is on finding a product / a buyer who is close enough for personal delivery or collection.

So, how do you work out the best shipping method for your purchase or sale?

It all depends on you and the other party!

The Importance of the Chat Function

When you open a listing on Facebook Marketplace, you will see a large blue button labelled ‘Message Seller’.

This is the best way to first find out more about the product, then to negotiate a price, and finally to arrange when you will pick up or how they will get the item to you.

Most buyers seeking a local product will collect or arrange to meet the seller somewhere central for ease and convenience (as well as safety).

However, the beauty of the chat function and the very flexible format of Marketplace is that how you arrange payment and shipping is really down to you and the other party involved in the transaction!

Happy shopping!
