Instagram is a visual-driven social media app, which uses your location and interests to suggest pages for you to follow, and posts that you might like to engage with.
The region that your app is programmed to not only connects you with local businesses but also makes it easy for you to tag locations and destinations that you visit, and access geo-specific features, filters, and other user experiences.
What this means is that when your app is programmed with your accurate region, it supports and promotes your activity in that area – thereby limiting your access to features outside of that location.
In this article, we’re considering the benefits of changing your region – as well as how to do it – to unlock different local features and tools.
Why Change Your Region on Instagram?
One of the great things about Instagram is the way that you can seamlessly tag locations and destinations, as well as local businesses and other landmarks in your post.
Having your app programmed into a set region makes it easy to access the local area via geo-targeted technology.
But this means that followers can just as easily see where you are posting from, which can make privacy difficult to maintain.
Changing your region alleviates the chance of followers being able to see where you are, by keeping your real location private.
What’s more, it unlocks filters and features that are exclusive to certain regions and areas, and lets you connect your posts to other destinations and areas. Finally, Instagram’s recommended content and accounts to follow will change when it thinks you are in a different region, linking you to local users and places.
Here’s how to do it…
3 Steps to Change Your Region on Instagram
- In Settings, change your Instagram account to a professional account
- In your professional account settings, head to ‘Review your Contact Info’ then ‘Business Address’
- Change your region by entering your chosen City or Town
Adding this seemingly minor feature will ensure that any followers who tries to find you will be directed towards the address and location information that you enter.
NOTE: If you want to maintain a personal account but want to change some of the location information linked to your profile, you can add a location to your individual posts – searching for the destination that you want your followers to see and where you want them to think you are. Instagram will in turn change the suggested content that it presents to you in line with your new “location” and will show accounts and posts that you might like to engage with.
We hope this helps to further improve your Instagram experience, making it easier to maintain your privacy and control the recommended content you see!
