Did you know that Facebook monitors and stores your entire search history?
While this may sound invasive at first, actually it helps Facebook to understand how you use the app so that it can personalise your feed and recommend content, ads, and even potential new friends.
The more Facebook tracks your activity and searches, the better able it is to personalise your content and experience, making your time spent on the platform or app more productive and enjoyable.
Of course, the more search history that Facebook stores, the more clogged your Facebook gets – and the harder it can be to start changing your habits and interests. What’s more, there may be searches that you want to clear or remove for whatever reason – which is where this article comes in.
Here are the steps you need to take to clear your Facebook search history.
4 Steps to Clear Your Search History
- Open the Facebook app and click on the magnifying glass icon in the top right hand corner of the screen
- Click on the blue text ‘See All’ at the top of your most recent searches
- Next to the heading ‘History’, click on ‘Clear All’
- A pop up window will appear asking if you want to clear all of your searches and visits. Click ‘Clear All’ again if you want to clear your search history
And voila!
NOTE: It is important to recognise here that clearing your search history will not reset your entire Facebook account and the information that Facebook has on you. This is just one step in the process of curating your ideal Facebook experience, as you need to then start making searches that are relevant and that do relate to the kind of content you want to see.
At this early stage, clearing your search history will hide your activity but will not have a big impact on the look of your app.
We hope this helps!
