Facebook Marketplace is an incredibly popular platform for selling unwanted goods and possessions, using Facebook data to match captive buyers with the best products available in their local area – and vice versa.
What’s more, the design and layout of Facebook is remarkably simple to use. Those who browse the platform and are interested in purchasing an item that they see, can send a message directly to the seller via a specific inbox in their Messenger app.
Here’s how to find and use it…
Sending a Message From Marketplace
When you open an item on Marketplace that’s available for sale, you will see a large blue button that stretches across the screen underneath the product imagery and title – labelled ‘Message Seller’.
This is by far the easiest and safest way of contacting the individual who is selling the product, enabling you to ask more questions and discuss a potential purchase.
If you’re ready to buy without further conversation, you can simply send an offer, or ‘Save’ the product and come back to it later.
Either way, the power is solely in your hands as a buyer, with regards to the initial contact.
Contacting Someone You Bought From Previously
Whether you want to contact someone regarding an item you purchased, or ask more questions in follow-up to an item that you are interested in, you can find all current and past conversations with Marketplace sellers (or buys) by heading into your Messenger app.
Click on the three lines menu button in the top left hand corner of the screen, and then select ‘Marketplace’ from the dropdown inbox list.
This will open your Marketplace inbox, which deals exclusively with conversations relating to Marketplace.
Keeping them separate ensures that these chats do not get mixed up in your private conversations and are easy to find when you need them.
Alternative Methods of Contact for Marketplace?
There are some sellers and buyers out there who will choose to exchange numbers or email addresses to facilitate sales and purchases. However, from a personal data and security perspective, the best advice we can share is to keep all contact and communication on Marketplace.
