A Facebook Story is a piece of content which is uploaded by the user and remains accessible and visible for 24 hours, before being removed from the platform.
It is typically an image or a short snippet of content, which is shared as an update or behind the scenes insight into their day, making stories some of the most authentic and relatable content on the platform.
Whether you consider yourself a content creator or simply use Facebook to stay in touch with friends and family, the Story feature is a quick and easy tool which enables efficient posting and regular updates, without committing content to your Facebook feed.
So, how do you create a story?
3 Steps to Create a Story
- From your main Facebook feed homepage, click on the plus sign icon along the top of the screen, and select ‘Story’ from the pop up menu
- Choose the type of story you want to create (with more information on this in the next section of the article)
- Add any text you want to include for context to your image or video, and then Share your story
Once uploaded to Facebook, your story will be visible to your Facebook friends for 24 hours. During this time they will be able to send you a message relating to it, react to it, or copy and share a link to your story.
NOTE: Visibility of your story will depend on your privacy settings. If set to private, only your friends will be able to view your Facebook story.
Deciding Which Type of Story to Create
Now that we’ve uncovered the process of creating and sharing a story on Facebook, let’s consider the different types and formats of story that you can share.
When you click on the plus sign icon and select ‘Story’, you will see options to create a Text-based story, to share a Boomerang, upload a photo or video from your device album, or capture a new photo or video.
The best stories tend to be those that feel authentic and natural, especially for businesses and content creators who want to build a following. So, snapping original footage or photos from where you are is a good way to connect and engage with your followers.
A text-based story is a good way to communicate an important message or update with your friends and followers.
Uploading an existing photo or video from your album is a good way to share content that you have captured before, but don’t want to upload to your Facebook feed.
Once you’ve filled the screen with your photo or video, you can tap on it to add a layer of text, add filters and stickers, and even layer some music on top of the story to capture extra attention.
The more engaging your story is, the more interaction you will get – and the more you will find that users look out for your future stories for long term engagement and communication.
We hope this helps!
