How to Delete a Comment on Facebook

There are two occasions where you might decide that you need to delete a comment on Facebook.

The first occurs when you have posted a comment on another user’s post or photo that you want to delete. The second is when you see a comment from another user on your post, that you don’t feel is appropriate or necessary.

How to Delete Your Comment on Someone’s Post

If you have shared a comment on a friend’s post by accident, or find that what you have said doesn’t make sense or isn’t relevant to the post, here’s how to delete it…

1. Navigate to the post and find your comment
2. Press and hold down on your comment on your smartphone screen
3. Select ‘Delete’ from the pop up box

This will remove your comment but will not remove any of the comments associated with yours – including direct replies to your comment. Because of this, you may find that deleting your comment renders the replies meaningless.

How to Delete a Comment on Your Post

If you have shared a post or photo and want to delete a comment left by another user, you are able to (and entitled to) do so. It’s important to note here that you can only delete other users’ comments on your post – you cannot delete a comment left by someone else on another individual’s post.

1. Find your post or photo that contains the comment
2. Press and hold down on the comment that you want to delete
3. Select ‘Delete’ from the pop up box

If the comment is offensive, you may decide to Report it and flag the content to Facebook moderators.

Alternatively, if you don’t want to delete someone’s comment on your post but you don’t want it to remain visible for you and other users, you can choose to ‘Hide’ it instead. This is a good option if you don’t want the poster to know that you wish to remove the comment.
