As soon as you log into Facebook, the first thing you will see at the top of your feed is a text box labelled with ‘What’s on Your Mind?’
Everything about the platform is geared towards sharing content and constantly updating your feed with fresh photos and text posts. So much so, that sometimes you post one too many updates and realise that your content has become a little overwhelming.
This is just one of the reasons why you might decide to hide one or more of your posts on Facebook. Other reasons to do so can include a post which contains outdated or irrelevant content, or perhaps a business post that announces a launch or even that is now in the past.
Whatever your reason for wanting to hide a post on Facebook, in this article we’re letting you know just how easy it is to do – with 3 simple steps.
3 Steps to Hide a Post on Facebook
- To hide a post that you have shared yourself, the first thing you need to do is find that post on your feed or profile
- Click on the three dots icon in the top right hand corner of the post
- This is where you can either Archive the post which removes it completely from your profile (but without deleting it) or ‘Edit Privacy’ and change the visibility of the post to ‘Only Me’
Archiving the post removes it from public and profile view while retaining the stats and content of the post – for up to 30 days. Changing the visibility means you will still see it, but it will be hidden from the view of friends and other users.
Can You Hide Other Users’ Posts?
There are several different ways in which users can hide the posts of other users on Facebook.
- You can hide posts which appear on your feed, letting Facebook know the kind of content that you don’t want to see appearing in your browsing experience
- You can hide users comments on your posts
- You can hide posts shared by friends on your personal Facebook profile feed
All of these examples of hiding other users’ posts have their own part to play in tailoring and adjusting your Facebook experience. The more posts you hide, the more insight you give to Facebook regarding what content you want to see and the kinds of things that you don’t want to see.
How to Find Hidden Posts
Posts which you have set to ‘Only Me’ in audience and visibility will still be accessible on your feed.
However, if you chose to Archive your post as a way of hiding it, you will need to head into your Activity Log through your Facebook settings in order to find it. And there’s a time limit – so if you want to reverse the action then you need to act fast!
To do this, head into your Settings and select ‘Activity Log’ from the ‘Your Activity’ section of the menu. Along the top of the Activity Log menu, click on the grey ‘Archive’ button. This will open any posts that you have archived within the last 30 days.
NOTE: If more than 30 days has passed since you put a post in the Archive, it will be automatically deleted from Facebook. Once deleted, you will no longer be able to access or find the post.
So yes, it’s easy to hide a post from Facebook. If you don’t mind the post being deleted then you can Archive it – but if you want to keep the post indefinitely but hide it from view, then it’s best to change the audience settings and restrict visibility to only you.
