There are some features on Facebook that have been active for years. The Facebook Event tool is one of them.

From drawing attention to and connecting friends with a public event, to informing friends about a private invite-only event that you’re hosting, the Events tool enables users to create their own event or piggyback onto existing events.

Inviting friends to an event means that it will pop up in their Notifications – asking them if they’d like to attend, decline, or think about it. Invitees are also free to add comments to the event’s wall, ask questions, and find out more details via the Location tag and Description.

Suffice to say, when it comes to inviting a large number of people to an event, or if you’re trying to expand the visibility of a public event that’s occurring either in person or remotely, then you can’t go wrong with the ease and convenience of the Events tool on Facebook.

Here’s how to add friends to the invite list of an existing event or build your own event and invite your friends.

3 Steps to Invite Friends to an Existing Event

  1. Search for the event via the Facebook search bar or click on the Menu button in the bottom right hand corner and navigate to the ‘Events’ content block
  2. Click on the button with the three dots icon, located next to the ‘Interested’ and ‘Going’ buttons
  3. Select ‘Invite People’ and then either search for specific friends or move down your list of friends and invite them using the button next to their name

NOTE: Thanks to the cohesion between Facebook and Instagram, you will be able to invite friends via Facebook and Instagram from this same Event page.

Creating an Event and Inviting Friends

To create a new event, you need to head into the ‘Events’ content block from your Facebook menu and then click on the plus sign along the top of the screen.

Enter as much information as you can about your event, taking care to tailor the ‘Event Privacy’ setting is correct. Any event that you set to ‘Private’ will be invite only, while a public event is open to everyone and a ‘Friends’ setting means that only those who you are friends with will see your event.

Once you’ve created your event, you can start to share the invite with friends. If your event is private, it’s worth noting that you can continue inviting friends even when the event has been created and shared on Facebook. It’s also important to note that only you can add new friends and send invites to a Private event, whereas anyone can invite anyone else to a public event.

We hope this helps! Facebook’s Events tool is a valuable asset for those looking to create and share events with their friends. The more time you spend familiarising yourself with the tool and how it works, the quicker you will find the event building process!
