There is no single button or notification that lets you know if and when someone has deleted their Facebook account.
If you want to find out whether someone has deleted their Facebook, the only option you have is to conduct a little research of your own – looking for signs of their profile, keeping an eye out for updates and comments that they post, or simply asking them directly.
In this article, we’ve compiled a few different ways of checking if someone has deleted their profile, starting with a quick search and ending in a direct conversation.
Why Should You Check if Someone Has Deleted Their Account?
Before we share the steps to checking if someone has deleted their account, let’s quickly cover the reasons for doing so.
The biggest motivator that users have when checking if someone has deleted their account, is to check that they haven’t been blocked. The signs that you’ve been blocked are very similar to the signs that indicate an account has been deleted – which is why users will follow these steps to try and determine if they’ve been blocked or the account has been removed.
It’s also wise to check if an account has been purposefully deleted or not, following a hack or strange behaviour. Finally, there is of course a chance that their account has been restricted for a period of time following a community guideline violation – though this will not exhibit the same symptoms as an account that’s been deleted, so can quickly be ruled out.
Signs That an Account Has Been Deleted
Here are some of the signs and things to check, to determine if a user has deleted their Facebook account…
Search for Their Profile
If you search for the profile of someone who you were friends with on Facebook, and nothing appears, then the chances are that they’ve deleted their account (or you have been blocked).
NOTE: An account that has simply been restricted will still be visible on search – unless the violation was so bad that Facebook removed the account completely.
Try and Message Them
If you have an existing private conversation with the user on Messenger, then open it and try to send them a message. If their name and image have disappeared, then the chances are that they’ve deleted their account.
Look for Comments on Existing Posts
Posts that the user has commented on in the past will provide some indication as to whether their account is still active or not.
If they’ve deleted their account, then their comment will still show but with no name or profile image next to it.
Check Their Profile From Another Login
If you are able to search for the user from another individual’s account or profile, then this can help to confirm whether or not you have been blocked.
If you can access the user’s account from a different profile but not your own, then you have been blocked. If you still cannot find or visit their profile, then the likelihood is that their account has been deleted.
Ask Them Directly
The last port of call is to ask them if they’ve deleted their account. If they’ve blocked you, this could open a conversation as to why – and could help you to sort out any differences.
If they have indeed deleted their account, then you no longer need to worry.
We hope this helps and puts your mind at ease!
