Your Facebook privacy settings are designed to give you control over your profile – namely which users can see your posts and updates, how easy your profile is to find, and whether or not a friend can tag you in a post or photo.
An increasing number of Facebook users are opting for private accounts, which lock their profile and prevent non-friends from being able to see and interact with their content.
However, there are certain times when having a public Facebook profile is necessary. For example, if you want to increase visibility of your profile in connection with your personal brand or grow your community on the platform.
With that in mind, where and how do you find the privacy setting that let you turn a private profile into a public one?
3 Steps to Turn Your Facebook Profile From Private to Public
- Click on the menu button in the bottom right hand corner of your Facebook app
- Select ‘Settings and Privacy’ then ‘Settings’
- On the Settings menu, click on ‘Default Audience Settings’
Once you’re in this Default Audience settings page, you can change your profile to ‘Public’, ‘Friends’ or ‘Custom’. Selecting ‘Public’ will change your entire profile and account to public visibility and access.
To further customise your account and profile, and to change different settings across your profile on a more manual basis, you can do so via the ‘Audience and Visibility’ menu below. Click into the various options to change visibility on how users find you, your posts, stories, reels, tags, and more.
And there you have it! A quick guide to changing your profile from private to public, alongside advice on the different settings available to you – and how to customise your profile visibility.
