It’s no secret that Facebook and Instagram are both owned by Meta and are operated under the same guidelines and operations. In fact, the two are so intrinsically linked that users can share content between the two at the single click of a button.
However, this feature is limited depending on where you create your post.
Keep reading for more insight into the sharing tool and how Facebook and Instagram are so closely connected.
Sharing From Instagram to Facebook
If you create a post on Instagram that you want to share across to Facebook, the process is incredibly simple.
Provided you are using the same account to login on both profiles, you can activate the sharing tool with one single switch on the final Editing screen. This will share your Instagram post directly to Facebook at the same time – replicating the image or video, the caption, and any tags.
The important thing to note here is that the process can be tailored per post, making it incredibly easy to share specific posts to Facebook as well as Instagram, with no automated feature.
Sharing From Facebook to Instagram
This is where it gets a little more complicated.
In order to share from Facebook to Instagram, you need to head into your settings and enable automated sharing. Once this is activated, rather than turning the share function on for posts you do want to share, you will need to remember to turn it off for posts that you don’t want to share to Instagram.
This means that sharing between the two platforms is reversed, depending on where your post originates.
To turn on automated sharing to Instagram, follow these steps…
- Click on the menu button in the bottom right hand corner
- Select the ‘Settings’ menu and then head into your ‘Accounts Centre’
- Click on ‘Sharing Across Profiles’
- Select your Facebook account, then activate sharing from Facebook over to Instagram using the toggles. These allow you to switch on automated sharing of posts, stories, and reels
Once these toggles are switched on, your content will always be sent directly over to Instagram (unless you switch the tool off on an individual post).
We hope this helps! It may seem complicated, but once you’ve got the hang of sharing and ensuring that your content is accessible across both platforms, you’ll find it incredibly easy to manage.
