Have you got an old Instagram reel that you created a few months ago, that you now wish you could share onto another platform?
Maybe you’re here for a little more guidance on how to save public Instagram reels within the app itself, so that you can watch them again at a later date?
Whatever your goal, this blog is packed full of information on how to make those golden nuggets of social media content available at a later date, both on and off the platform.
How to Save An Instagram Reel Before Posting
- Create a reel as usual, by clicking on the plus sign in a square box at the top of your profile screen, and selecting ‘Reel’
- Once you’re happy with your reel, including the audio and all footage and imagery, click on the download button which is indicated by the downward pointing arrow on top of a horizontal line
This saves the reel to your device and camera roll before sharing it on the app. You are now free to upload the content to other apps and share it with users away from Instagram with ease.
How to Save One Of Your Own Past Reels
- Find the reel that you want to save (use the shortcut reels grid on your profile page to narrow down the available content more quickly)
- Select the paper airplane button which is sat underneath the like and comment buttons on the right hand side of the screen
- Here, you can download the reel to your device or share it with users via other platforms. You can also save the reel within your saved collection on the app, or copy the link to another app
Using this, even your old and forgotten reels can be quickly and easily accessible both on Instagram and across your other social media profiles.
How to Save Another Users Reel
If you see a reel that you want to save, the easiest way is by accessing a third party app – or recording your screen while you watch the reel. This will instantly turn the reel into a video direct on your device’s camera roll, making it easy to share elsewhere.
It is important to note here that if you share another user’s reel on another social platform, accreditation can be an issue – especially if you are using their content directly. Consider the importance of crediting them in the caption before posting.
How to Save a Reel Within The App
Finally, for those of you who want to save a reel within Instagram, so that you can view it again at a later date.
- Open the reel that you want to save for later
- Click on the three dots underneath the comment and like icons down the right hand side of the screen
- Select ‘Save’ at the very top of the pop up box
You can access all of your saved reels by heading to your profile page and selecting the menu button in the top right hand corner. Navigate down the list of options to ‘Saved’ and find the specific reel that you are looking for (narrowing down your search by opening ‘All Posts’ and selecting the reels tab).
TOP TIP: If you often see reels that you like the look of and want to save for later, you can create saved collections to make finding them again even easier.
And voila! All of your favourite reels, where and when you need them!
