If you’ve just launched a new brand or business venture and are using Instagram as your main touchpoint with customers, then this article is for you.

In it, we’re going to share some of the ways that you can sell through Instagram without a website – building a community of active customers and followers who know and love what you do and sell.

Why Sell On Instagram?

While websites are considered the norm when it comes to ecommerce and digital sales, more and more customers are turning to social media for both brand discovery and purchase.

Which is why Instagram has recently launched its own Instagram Shopping feature for businesses.

But more on that in a moment…

The beauty of selling on Instagram is that the platform supports discovery, marketing, customer engagement, and the point of sale. It keeps everything in one place so that the customer enjoys a cohesive experience, while minimising the walls and points at which they may be lost.

What’s more, when customers buy on Instagram directly, you only have to keep tabs on one app and platform as part of your business management.

Here’s how to set up and support sales on Instagram without a website.

How to Sell Through Instagram’s Shopping Feature – Without a Website

Instagram Shopping enables you to create shoppable posts, with users able to browse, select, and checkout all within the app.

The first thing you need to do is create your business account. If you already have an account but it is not a business account, make sure to change the account type before proceeding – because only the business account unlocks shoppable posts!

Once you have a profile, you need to create a great bio to support your business and start creating and sharing posts which spotlight your products. This will help you to establish and start building a community on Instagram – packed with users who will (hopefully) become your customers!

Now it’s time to create your Instagram shop.

  1. Inside your Business Tools page, select ‘Set Up a Shop’
  2. From here, your page will request to connect to a Facebook account. This should be connected with your business to, to enable Instagram to access your product catalogue
  3. Alternatively, Instagram will create a catalogue for you

From here, you can tailor and organise your product listings, then start linking them in your existing posts. This will make your posts shoppable – so that users who see something they like can simply click on the post and navigate straight to the shoppable link.

NOTE: The Instagram Shop tool is not available in all regions. If you cannot set up a shop, then keep reading for an alternative set-up.

How to Sell Through Instagram Without An In-App Shop

Of course, you don’t even need to set up an Instagram shop to start selling, provided you’re happy to manage more of a manual shopping experience.

Plenty of small businesses on Instagram use the app for marketing and customer engagement, accepting orders via DM – and handling all transactions remotely.

This is the easiest way of setting up a brand new venture through Instagram, using the visual tools and insights that you get from the app to help promote and really showcase your products. If you find that your Instagram presence is growing out of control, you can then explore building a website or alternative platform to manage your orders and customer service.

We hope this helps! Instagram can be an exceptionally valuable tool for businesses of all sizes and across all industries, connecting you directly with customers and peers. Whether you decide to connect your account to an in-app shop, promote a website, or manage orders directly via DM, using Instagram will help you to build a community and make a name for yourself and your brand.
