There’s nothing quite so annoying as signing up for a new platform or service, and inadvertently being added to their email list. We’ve all been there – and we’ve all found ourselves deleting countless emails every morning without opening a single one.
The emails that TikTok sends fall into a number of different categories. Some are important, for example the verification emails that allow you to log back into an account that you’ve been locked out of or forgotten the password to. Others are more irritating, for example the constant notification emails that let you know about new followers, new comments, and new engagement with your videos on the app. You may also receive emails from TikTok itself, promoting certain creators or highlighting new features.
Which of these emails you value will depend on your preference and how you like to use the app. But for the sake of this article, we’re going to assume you only want to receive those that are integral to your experience.
So, in this article, we’re sharing the process of removing unnecessary emails and clearing out your inbox.
How to Disable Email Notifications
Email notifications are the messages that let you know about a new comment or follower.
You can turn these off in the TikTok app via the following process:
- Navigate to your profile page on TikTok and click on the menu button in the top right hand corner, indicated by the three horizontal lines
- Select ‘Settings and Privacy’ and then ‘Notifications’
- Scroll to the bottom of the list and tap on ‘Email Notifications’. If you’re already receiving email notifications then this is where you can switch the function off, stripping your inbox of notifications. If you aren’t getting email notifications and want to switch them on, you can do so by adding an email address and switching the feature on.
Once actioned, this will immediately be reflected in your email inbox – ceasing the arrival of any new notifications (or switching them on if you prefer!)
How to Switch off Marketing Emails
If you are receiving marketing emails from TikTok that you want to switch off, you can do so by following the standard process when receiving any kind of marketing email.
GDPR regulations indicate that companies must offer recipients an opportunity to unsubscribe from marketing emails and notifications at any time. So, if you scroll to the bottom of an email you receive from TikTok, you will find an ‘Unsubscribe’ button that will stop all emails from being sent to your inbox.
