How to Turn off Active Status on Facebook

Are you tired of having people message you as soon as they see that you are online and active on Facebook, expecting you to respond straight away?

While the green circle next to your profile picture lets your friends know when you are active on the app, luckily there is a way of turning if off – and in this article we’re going to tell you how.

5 Steps to Turn off Active Status

1. In your Facebook app, tap on the menu button in the bottom right hand corner of the screen (indicated by your profile picture)
2. Select ‘Settings and Privacy’
3. Select ‘Settings’
4. Scroll down to the ‘Audience and Visibility’ menu and select ‘Active Status’ at the bottom of the list
5. Turn off the toggle that reads ‘Show when you’re active’

By switching off this toggle, users will no longer be able to see when you are online or have recently been on Facebook.

It is important to note that switching this feature off for yourself will also mean you cannot see when other friends and users are active.

We hope this helps! Turning off active status is a quick way of securing a little more privacy around how often you use Facebook and at what times you are online. It removes the expectation of faster replies – something that more and more users value as their time is split between different social platforms.
