Unpublishing a Facebook page means removing the page from public view – either permanently or on a temporary basis while you are unable to manage it.
In much the same way as you might unpublish your personal Facebook profile, the main options available to page managers are to either deactivate their page or delete it.
In this article, we’re taking you through the process of both, sharing the differences between deactivating and deleting the page completely.
How to Deactivate or Delete Your Facebook Page
To unpublish or remove your page from public view, you need to follow these steps:
- Navigate to your page on Facebook so that you are viewing the platform as admin
- Once you are logged into Facebook as the page manager, click on the menu button in the bottom right hand corner of your screen
- Select the cog icon at the top of the menu screen
- Scroll down to the ‘Your Information’ heading and select ‘Access and Control’
- Click on the ‘Deactivation and Deletion’ option
Make the right selection, based on your reasons for unpublishing your Facebook page and whether you want the action to be temporary and able to be reversed, or permanent.
Should You Deactivate or Delete?
This is where you need to decide if you want to unpublish your page permanently and remove it from Facebook, or simply close it for a period of time – with the aim being to reopen it again in the future.
A page can be deactivated with ease, which removes it from public view but stores all the photos and data linked with the page so that your insight and analytics are not lost.
Conversely, deleting the page cannot be reversed, and will remove everything linked with that Facebook page from the platform permanently.
In short, whether you choose to deactivate or delete your page completely, both processes serve to unpublish your content, and everything linked with the page. We hope this helps you to understand the process and the differences between a temporary removal of your page and a permanent deletion.
