Many of the acronyms and abbreviations which flood TikTok captions and comments are designed to portray specific messages in shorthand.

Whether communicating something with friends and followers, or jumping onto a content trend, using these acronyms unlocks a world of TikTok speak that many are unaware of – particularly those who don’t use the app very often!

In this article though, we’re focussing on one very specific term that’s used on TikTok – but not in the way you might expect…

What Is the ‘fake Body’ Trend?

You might see this and assume it’s used to highlight a heavily filtered or edited image – and you may well be right! This is the kind of comment that users might add to a post shared by an influencer or creator who has clearly over-edited their body, so it no longer represents their genuine look.

But that’s not the most common use of ‘fake body’ on TikTok.

‘Fake Body’ is added to the caption of a post by the creator themselves, as a way of throwing TikTok bots off the scent of a mildly exposing or risqué image.

Always with caution emojis in place before and after the two-word phrase, adding ‘Fake Body’ to the caption of a TikTok makes it less likely to be flagged as a potentially risqué image – thereby enabling a creator to share a post in a bikini or a more revealing outfit than would usually be allowed.

This lets creators bypass TikTok’s strict guidelines around nudity and exposing images – by letting the app think that the post and the body shown in the image or video is fake.

A pretty clever hack, huh?!
