Have you ever heard of Facebook Lite? Considered an alternative platform to the standard Facebook app, Facebook Lite is officially linked with Facebook but is accessible on older and more limited devices.
Avid and regular users of Facebook will know that the app grows more complex every day – requiring HD screens, lots of storage space, and an unrivalled audio and camera system.
Facebook Lite removes these requirements, instead introducing a version of the app which works on a much more limited phone – both in terms of storage capacity and in how “smart” it really is.
By stripping Facebook of its most complex features, Facebook Lite can also run more effectively on unstable or poor connections and will even work on a much more heavily capped data plan. All of this, without removing the communications features and tools that users really need in order to make the most of their account.
How Does Facebook Lite Work?
Facebook Lite is the same as regular Facebook, but with a much simpler system that reacts more quickly and takes up far less space and device capacity.
Contrary to popular belief, when you log onto Facebook Lite, there are very few alterations to the actual user experience and interface. The same updates and feed posts are there and able to be interacted with, and users can still upload their own status and photos at will.
The changes are mostly contained and hidden on the backend of Facebook Lite, with the main differences outlined in the next section of this article…
How Does Facebook Lite Compare to Facebook?
Facebook Lite offers much the same experience to users, hiding the main differences between it and standard Facebook behind the scenes.
Some of the biggest differences include:
- Facebook Lite requires and takes up less space on the device
- Facebook Lite uses less battery to run
- Facebook Lite does not present images and videos in the same visual quality, displaying things in lower resolution. This means that images and videos can load more quickly (though may not be as suitable for screenshots and downloads)
- The Facebook Lite app opens and runs more quickly
- Facebook Lite is simpler to use
Suffice to say, Facebook Lite is Facebook – but simpler and smaller (at least where storage is concerned!)
If you have an older smartphone or a device with limited capacity and data, then Facebook Lite provides access to all the features you need, but strips away some of the more complex systems in order to give you unrivalled access to the best bits of Facebook browsing.
Currently, Facebook Lite is only available on Android devices – though it is expected that the app may be rolled out on a wider scale if it continues to prove popular with users. We hope this helps!
