Why Are People Posting Red Hearts on Facebook?

Are you aware of the secret meaning behind many of the popular emojis used on Facebook?

While Facebook reactions are capped at just a few of the core and most used emojis, when someone posts an emoji as their update, it typically boasts an underlying meaning or message.

And in this article, we’re looking at what it means when someone posts the red heart emoji.

Deciphering the Red Heart Emoji

When used as a reaction to a comment or post, the red heart indicates love and appreciation for the message that has been shared. It’s a way of supporting and boosting the post without having to type a comment out, and contributes towards Facebook’s algorithm and the way that the original poster is perceived on the app.

But when shared as a single emoji status update, the red heart has a different meaning.

It is increasingly being used and shared by women as a mark of support for those facing breast cancer, and as a reminder to other women to check their breasts for lumps.

Other Uses for the Red Heart

Some other popular uses for the red heart emoji include sharing it with a loved one, posting it alongside a sentimental message for valentine’s day, and using the heart as a symbolic gesture alongside a photo that you’re sharing.

As one of the warmest and most popular emojis, the red heart means lots of different things to different users. However, when seen as a standalone post, it may well mean that the user is sharing a very specific message.
